Regardless of whether you are using local or remote users, user permissions are always assigned by Groups defined centrally on Lighthouse.
These Groups are associated with Roles (which set the permission level) and Linked Smart Groups (which set the permission scope).
Before continuing, ensure you are familiar with how Lighthouse permissions work.
- Login to Lighthouse as a Lighthouse Administrator User
Optional: Create a Smart Group
- Click Manage -> Nodes -> Enrolled Nodes
- Click the Select Smart Groups text box and select New Smart Group
- Select a Field to search, Operator and Value, for example Location Is Cambridge
- Click + to add multiple filters, click Apply
- Click Save As
- Enter a Name, for example Cambridge Nodes
- Click Apply
Create the User Group
- Click Settings -> User Management -> Groups
- Click + to Add Group
Group Name: Enter a POSIX-style name (must only contain lower case alphanumeric, dash and underscore characters) for the Group, for example cbgadmin
Description: Enter an optional description
Role: Select a Role to set the Group's permission levels
Linked Smart Group: Select a Smart Group to set the Nodes this Group applies to
- Click Save Group
