Providing secure remote access to serial and USB ports of connected Managed Devices is a key feature of Opengear Nodes. Lighthouse additionally provides central access to Managed Device consoles across to all enrolled Nodes via the Console Gateway feature.

Console Gateway has many benefits, including:
- A single point for all console access simplifies security, authentication and routing policy
- Lighthouse VPN enables access to console ports behind firewalls, or when a Node has failed over to a private cellular network
- Convenient and consistent access conventions vs. searching through site manifests and IP address lists to locate a console
- Metadata Tags and Smart Group searches group Nodes region, operational group, etc.
Console Gateway CLI
SSH to Lighthouse and login using one of these usernames:
- username:serial – select a node, then console port to connect to
- username:node_name – on the specified node, select a console port to connect to
- username:node_name:port_label – connect directly to the specified console port on the specified node
- username:port_label – connect directly to the first console port matching the specific label, across all nodes (most useful when unique console port labels have been set)
For example:
ssh username:node_name:port_label@address.of.lighthouse
