Configure IPv6

By default, all Opengear console server devices operate in IPv4-only mode. However they may also be configured to operate in dual-stack mode, enabling both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols.

Note: More exactly, kernel support for IPv6 is enabled by default however IPv6 is not allowed through firewall.  So in IPv4-only mode you may notice self-assigned link local addresses beginning with fe80: and a ::1 loopback address.  These addresses are inaccessible and do not indicate the IPv6 is operational. 

To enable IPv6:

• Login to the Opengear web UI as root or an admin user
• Click System -> IP -> General Settings
• Check Enable IPv6
• Click Apply

Stateless autoconfiguration (SLAAC) is now enabled on all supported network interfaces (see below for limitations).

You may also configure a static IPv6 address by clicking the desired Interface tab, scrolling down to IPv6 Settings: Network and entering an IPv6 Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway.

Note that stateful/DHCPv6 configuration is not currently supported.

Limitations

Most features, including console access, firewall customization, cellular, serial port aliases, DHCP, ZTP and SNMP monitoring, are supported over IPv6.

The following features do not currently support IPv6:

• IP Passthrough
• VPN (IPsec, OpenVPN, PPTP)
• TFTP & FTP servers
• PPP dial-in and dial-out
• Auto-Response SMTP alerts
• Nagios
• Network power control (PDU, UPS, IPMI)

The following features have limitations over IPv6:

• Custom console server mode base ports (e.g. SSH to 3000 + console port number) affect IPv4 only
• Cascaded console port access via the master uses the username:serial convention only
