The ACM5500 can be powered a selection of ways:
- Each ACM5500 is supplied with an external AC-12VDC wall mount power supply. This comes with a selection of wall socket adapters for each geographic region. The 12V DC connector from the power supply unit plugs into the 12VDC (PWR) power jack on the side of the casing. To power from an AC mains source simply plug in the power supply AC power cable and the DC power cable and turn on the AC power (and confirm the console server Power LED (PWR) lights:)
- Alternately the ACM5500 can be powered from an external +9V DC to +30V DC power source you supply. Simply connect the DC power lines to a power plug that plugs into the 12VDC (PWR) jack ... and take care the supply is wireed for positive polarity:
Also the ACM5500 can be powered by connecting an external 9V AC to 24V AC power source to this jack.
- The industrial ACM5508-2-I and ACM5504-5-G-I models also can be powered externally by connecting a +9 to +30V DC power source to the EXT 9-30V DC and GND connectors on the green screw terminal block on the side of the unit. These industrial models can also be dual DC powered as described in https://opengear.zendesk.com/entries/23343778-Dual-power-sources-for-ACM5000-and-ACM5500-
- Lastly there is the ACM5504-2-P which can be PoE powered using 802.3af compliant power sources.
Powering with a SDC48-12V
Opengear also offers an external DC-DC power converter that can be ordered as an accessory with any ACM5500. This SDC48-12V converter has an integrated power cable/connector that plugs into the 12VDC (PWR) connector on the ACM5500 and the input voltage for the DC-DC converter can range from +36V DC to +72V DC or from -36V DC to -72V DC
The SDC48-12V is an isolated “nominal 48V” to 12V DC converter. It has two screw terminal inputs that take the (+) and (–) conductors from the DC plant voltage feed directly as long as the voltage across them is in the range 36V~72V DC.
The +12V output of the SDC48-12V comes out on two adjacent screw terminals (+V=12V, -V=0V) which take a short cable which is included (+V is red, -V is black) that converts it to our 2.5mm barrel connector (inside pin +12V, outside 0V).
Connecting a chassis ground (central earth symbol ) conductor often depends on the DC plant or telco safety requirements but normally it is wired from the SDC48-12V earth terminal to the required earthing point of the desired chassis or frame.
