By default the Opengear device's Management LAN network interfaces is physical and logically separated from its Network Interface.
These network interfaces can be aggregated (also known as NIC teaming) by being bridged or bonded. Note that other interfaces including switch, wireless, etc. are excluded from aggregation.
To configure:
- When aggregated, the network interfaces are configured collectively using Network Interface's IP settings and MAC address
- Login to the Opengear web UI as root or an admin user, click System -> IP -> Network Interface and configure
- Click System -> IP -> General Settings, select Bridge or Bond Interfaces and Apply
Bridging: The interfaces are connected at layer 2 using Spanning Tree Protocol (STP), all network traffic is forwarded across the aggregated interfaces with no firewall restrictions.
Bonding: MII link monitoring activates Management LAN should Network Interface lose link – details including how to specify bonding driver parameters to e.g. enable LACP, please refer to this article.
