The Auto-Response facility in all console servers can be set to monitor nominated ports/ devices / probes/ states for Check Condition to trigger action sequences. Refer faq409-Auto-Response-Alerts.html.
The Trigger Actions that can be included in sequence of actions initiated by the Check Condition include:
- Send Email - sends email alerts with custom text messages to multiple recipients
- Send SMS - an SMS alert can be sent if there is an internal or external USB cellular modem attached (and an SMS alert can also be sent via a SMTP SMS gateway)
- Send SNMP Trap - an SNMP trap can be for Serial, Environmental, UPS and Cellular Check Conditions triggers only
SNMP and SMTP alerts - pre V3.5.1 firmware
The basic Alert facility provided in firmware revisions pre V3.5.1 monitored the status of the console server and connected devices for specified alert events, which would then email an Alert message to a nominated email/SMS address or send an SNMP trap.
To set up an alert facility simply select Add a New Alert from the Alerts&Logging: Alerts menu and set the trigger condition e.g. the trigger can be any user connecting or disconnecting from a nominated serial port or host.
Refer faq306 for more details on configuring to send email and SMS notifications.
