The Operations Manager is Opengear's first NetOps Console Server – it provides both the resilient out-of-band management that Opengear console servers are known for (SmartOOB), but also serves as a platform to carry out day-to-day network operations and implement advanced network automation.
The Operations Manager provides enhanced hardware and software capabilities beyond other Opengear console server models. A high-level overview of these is listed below:
Hardware
CPU & RAM | x86_64 architecture and more RAM to run off-the-shelf containers and code; 5 to 10 times more powerful |
Storage | mSATA SSD is orders of magnitude faster and higher capacity; all user-writable storage is encrypted |
Security | TPM 2.0 chip and locked bootloader for trusted boot, storage encryption; may only run securely signed firmware; physical tamper resistance |
Airflow | Front to back airflow for hot/cold aisle deployment; still fully fanless |
Software
API-first | Designed to be automated; UI and CLI configuration interfaces are lightweight clients to a fully featured REST API |
Modern UX | JS web application look and feel; lower touch configuration and enhanced operational workflows; dark mode |
Docker | Run standard containers pulled from Docker Hub; build and run your own custom containers; full support for Opengear NetOps Modules |
Firewall | Performant and powerful firewall built on firewalld and nftables |
Console Autodiscovery | Automatically update console port labels with the hostname of the connected network device |
Automatic Rollback | Resilient remote upgrades with automatic rollback on failure |
